Excellent pièce - and totally agree about saving space for walk-ins. Spontaneity needs to return to London.

Restaurants menus designed by natoora, yep. Gildas are definitely no longer cool, (unless you're in San Sebastian) Trends trends trends, socials socials socials. Boring boring boring.

Maybe the London restaurant scene should be more like Madrid. You find Gildas everywhere too but in obviously basque restaurants. Less annoying somehow, lol (This is not a real solution) Thanks again to all the contributors!!

New subscriber off the back of this particularly enjoyable bit of spleen that landed in my inbox. Sam Napiers's excellent point on the surfeit of bestism is largely a stinging rebuke of a great deal of writing on life's pleasures these days, particularly music, though glad to say, not here.
