Oh I love this so much! I grew up in Coventry too and also moved to the East Sussex coast, AND have the loveliest memories of my own Nana (who could not cook very well but fed me very enthusiastically nonetheless) so this was the nicest thing to read first thing. I cannot wait to make the tart. Joyful

Beautiful essay, your grandparents' story really reminded me of my grandmother. She's still with us, but at 93, her mobility is limited, and she isn't cooking anymore. But as Melissa suggested to you, I will ask her to write some of my favourite recipes from her.

Also - I must say - I can't make a tart or a quiche without overly spreading Dijon mustard on its based, it's THE secret ingredient for an addictive pie.
