Adored every grain of this-- the unapologetic threat, the Lamjarred epithet, and the way the piece travels through time and space

Beautiful post. Family holiday to France this year ended with a visit to a tiny Moroccan restaurant on the back streets of Calais - my kids first proper couscous, because we live in Glasgow, where the pickings are even slimmer. They are still talking about it weeks later as the best thing they ate all holiday.

Thanks for the London recommendations - might mean we get to enjoy some sooner than next summer, on another pre-Eurostar night in Calais. (Unless anyone knows where to find some in Scotland...)

This is wonderful! Sitting in the south of France, in 30 degree heat, now planning for winter and finding couscous recipes…

I got an email notification from Vittles during my morning scrolling and I couldn’t get out of bed until I finished this. A beautiful piece.

What’s the address for Ourika Cafe?

It WAS 47 Blackstock Road, although I hope it hasn’t closed down since.

Arthur, may I suggest Khamsa in Brixton. It does wonderful Algerian cooking and if I recall delicious couscous. Whilst there you can reflect on the obsessive poison of your own self-denial.
