I finally made time to read the print issue of the the Vittles Magazine last weekend and this article blew me away. Such beautiful writing; I loved the stories, particularly the history of the Avari family whom I never knew anything about despite the hotel being the backdrop of so many stories I heard as a child. An incredible piece of journalism which was a joy to read. Thank you !
Against all odds & objections - our own and our hotel managers' - my father trusted his Instincts and went for it ... The rest, as they say, is history 😏 ... well covered in your report.
A great capture of Japanese cuisine in Karachi ... in Pakistan
Love this story - and couldn't help but grin at the Ismailis on their way home from Jamat Khana picking up sushi - as their brothers and sisters in London (of which I am one) might also do.
Oh man, now I miss Karachi so bad! What an amazing story about one of a million things that is incredible about Karachi. I would love to read a whole book like this!
Had never previously wondered about whether sushi was popular in Pakistan and if so, how that had come to be. But I really really enjoyed reading this meticulously detailed tale of how sushi came to Karachi!
This is the type of niche, super detailed reporting I live for. Incredible piece.

Gosh I loved this read. Haven’t been to Karachi in over half my life, but this article felt like I could picture it again. Hooked from the first line!
