Very interesting read, could devour endless Japanese food culture content. It's a shame though that for an article exploring food "through four arts", the accompanying visuals are so limited and generally poor quality / resolution. What's the reason for this?
Glad you enjoyed the piece. The visuals are limited because this goes out as an email and there's only so many visuals you can add before it becomes too big to send out. You can read it a bit easier on the website, and zoom in to many of the manga panels.
Thanks for this, I've written a whole bunch on Japanese food in Japan too, including Matsusaka Beef, Seafood, and Fugu at https://hiddenjapan.substack.com/

Another top quality newsletter, and one of great personal interest. A pleasure to read.
Great stuff, and I think you'd love to visit Ghibli Park's food exhibition!
